I love Ladakh for it’s beautiful and brutal landscape, incredible trekking, and the opportunity to get away from everything. Last year I spent a week walking up to 5500 meters and whole days passed without seeing another soul. Last week I received an invitation to the Ladakh Confluence ’09, a music festival on the banks of the river Indus just down the road from Leh the capital of Ladakh. I visited the site last year and saw the Dalai Lama giving a speach and leading prayers with over 25000 Ladakhis. The idea of a music festival in the same venue is both extraordinary and incredible.
Ladakh Confluence’s line up includes Talvin Singh and his “tabla to the max” as well as “dance worthy” Rajasthan Roots. Walking at 3500m is one thing dancing is quite different, my recommendation is to go on a week long trek to get very fit and well acclimatised for the dancing. India Beat’s man in Ladakh, George will be on location and ready to help any dancers in distress.
